Homemade Applesauce
I make this all the time, especially when I have apples that are about to go bad. I use whatever apples I have as long as they are the red kind, I don't use green apples. If you have a lot of time use the slow cooker, if in hurry or have only a few apples you can do on the stove at low heat. I use both methods. I usually just do the sugar to taste when I'm doing less apples on the stove. This recipe below is pretty sweet, like dessert so if you don't want that sweet cut back brown sugar and add more if needed at end to taste.
Ingredients:
About 5 or 6 Large Red Apples (any type is fine)
1/2 Cup Brown Sugar (packed)
2-3 Tbsp Lemon Juice (from the bottle)
____________________________
1/4 teaspoon of Ground Cinnamon
Directions:
Peel, core and slice apples. Put them in slow cooker, add lemon juice and brown sugar. Stir well.
Cover and cook for around 3 hours. (I stir occasionally just to get the lemon juice and brown sugar mixed in there well.) When cooked, mash up the apples with potato masher until the way you like your apple sauce. (Sometimes I do smooth and sometimes chunky)
Stir in cinnamon. Don't forget this part. Sometimes just to make it easy I add it in with brown sugar and lemon juice.
Enjoy.
